Brevard: August 23rd Primary Candidate Survey

Brevard County Commission District 4

Survey Question Sandra Sullivan Rob Feltner
1) Do you fully support the BREVARD COUNTY Save Our Indian River Lagoon(SOIRL) Program and its renewal? Yes: The oversight committee, audit, and following the CCMP issues be fixed. Additionally, county needs to do their part i.e. not adding dev to sewage plant near capacity, need to decrease (not increase)aquatic herbicides  Yes
2) Do you support Low Impact Development requirements in your jurisdiction for every new or expanding development? Yes: County's LID is weak; need strong LID like Tampa Bay. There are other solutions as well for limiting the stormwater inputs from growth that are changing salinity and impacting lagoon. Yes
3) Do you support requiring conversion of septic systems to sewer or advanced septics (where necessary) for any new development and for upgrading properties? Yes: However, we cannot be adding to sewage plants that are near capacity 85%+ (which County is doing) - this is irresponsible putting lagoon at risk in event of storm event. Yes
4) Do you support enforcement and penalties for fertilizer violations by citizens and commercial/governmental organizations? This issue needs to be addressed legislatively with fertilizer not sold in stores during wet season. Need more information before I can answer, example, what agencies would be tasked with this? what are the penalties?
5) Do you support a permanent ban on the spreading of biosolids in your jurisdiction? Yes: Biosolids have contaminates PFAS, heavy metals, pathogens etc and should not be on our floodplains especially. Contaminated muck should also not go on floodplains as also a health and safety risk.  Yes
6) Do you support the creation of sustainability boards, and will you actively encourage their projects in your government? Yes: Sustainability boards are great for ideas as well as government accountability and transparency. We need to address restrictions of only 4 meetings per year of advisory boards and increase.  Yes
7) If you are elected, will you hold firm on these commitments? Yes Yes
