SUMMARY:Save Our Lagoon Project Plan!
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at MRC’s Ted Moorhead Lagoon House Tuesday\, November 7th\, 2017 at 12 pm\, for an educational lunchtime seminar about Brevard County’s Save Our Lagoon Project Plan\, presented by Terry Casto\, a member of the Citizen Oversight Committee. He will be discussing the threats that the Indian River Lagoon faces and how they are being adressed in regards to the Save Our Lagoon Project Plan. \nWhat is the Save Our Lagoon Project Plan? \nIn order to reduce serious human impacts on the Indian River Lagoon\, such as dense algae blooms and massive fish kills\, Brevard County Citizens were given the option by the Brevard County Commission to vote on a half-cent sales tax dedicated to restoration of the Indian River Lagoon. Commissioners only agreed to the referendum after seeing the Save Our Indian River Lagoon Plan\, which lays out a detailed\, prioritized plan to reduce Lagoon impacts to sustainable levels. On November 8\, 2016\, 193\,066 Brevard County voters (62.4%) approved taxing themselves for ten years to fix the Indian River Lagoon. \nTo find more information about the plan before attending\, visit: http://www.brevardfl.gov/SaveOurLagoon/Home. \nThe event is free and open to the public. Attendees must register. If interested and able\, we ask participants to donate $5 toward our guest speaker series. This educational series is a long-standing and cherished program of the MRC that is supported by volunteers and the community’s charitable giving. All donations are tax-deductible. \nAttendees are encouraged and welcome to bring and enjoy their lunch during the seminar! \nFor more information on the Marine Resources Council\, please visit SaveTheIRl.org.

The idea of the garden was brought before the Board last year by 9 year old resident Roman Vigliotti and was passed by City Council. The garden is modeled after the F.I.T. garden “Ethos” and F.I.T intern Zach Eichholz helped with the design. Eagle Scout Troop 309 helped gather volunteers to help with the build. Big thanks to the Public Works team and everyone who helped make this possible.\nWe hope to see you at the opening!
