SUMMARY:Impromtu Neighborhood Hike
DESCRIPTION:Sorry for the short lead-time. \nWe will take a slow\, easy hike starting at the small parcel of Turkey Creek Sanctuary that is EAST of the creek. Do NOT drive to the main Turkey Creek Sanctuary entrance. The parking area is on grass off of Briar Creek Blvd. opposite the Glennbrooke Assisted Living Facility. Please arrive at 8:45 for a prompt 9:00 AM start. I drive a small\, old\, blue-gray\, Toyota Tacoma pick-up. \nWe will hike south and continue into the Cameron Preserve and the Malabar Scrub Sanctuary (West). We will walk a loop and return to our cars. \n• What to bring\nPlease wear sturdy walking shoes or boots that can get dirty. There may be mud in spots. Also bring a bottle of water. No restrooms are available. However\, the pace will be leisurely and we can stop to answer Nature’s Call. Small binoculars might be a good idea but I am not a birder\, so I cannot help with identification. \n• Important to know\nOff-road bicyclists will be present and we must yield right-of-way when they approach. Hikers should shout “Bike-up!” if one approaches the lead hikers and “Bike-back!” if one approaches from the rear.

SUMMARY:2018 SCPA Strategic Planning Meeting
DESCRIPTION:In accordance with SCPA bylaws and procedures\, SCPA will elect Officers and four Member Delegates to the governing Board of Directors at our regular monthly meeting on Thursday\, January 4\, 2018. Prior to the meeting\, members will receive by regular mail a copy of the ballot which lists each of the candidates along with a short bio. While this slate of candidates was created by the SCPA nominating committee\, we will continue to accept nominations up until we actually vote. The election will occur during the brief\, specially convened Annual Membership Meeting. \nFollowing the elections\, we will hold a Strategic Planning meeting during which everyone in attendance will be encouraged to participate. Our plan is to break the audience up into 5 or 6 teams to brainstorm ideas for moving a progressive agenda and progressive candidates forward in 2018. Needless to say\, we all need to work together to create the change that is so badly needed in Brevard County\, Florida and nationally. \nBring a friend on January 4th\, and let’s continue to build Team SCPA and the progressive community!

SUMMARY:Save Our Lagoon Project Plan!
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at MRC’s Ted Moorhead Lagoon House Tuesday\, November 7th\, 2017 at 12 pm\, for an educational lunchtime seminar about Brevard County’s Save Our Lagoon Project Plan\, presented by Terry Casto\, a member of the Citizen Oversight Committee. He will be discussing the threats that the Indian River Lagoon faces and how they are being adressed in regards to the Save Our Lagoon Project Plan. \nWhat is the Save Our Lagoon Project Plan? \nIn order to reduce serious human impacts on the Indian River Lagoon\, such as dense algae blooms and massive fish kills\, Brevard County Citizens were given the option by the Brevard County Commission to vote on a half-cent sales tax dedicated to restoration of the Indian River Lagoon. Commissioners only agreed to the referendum after seeing the Save Our Indian River Lagoon Plan\, which lays out a detailed\, prioritized plan to reduce Lagoon impacts to sustainable levels. On November 8\, 2016\, 193\,066 Brevard County voters (62.4%) approved taxing themselves for ten years to fix the Indian River Lagoon. \nTo find more information about the plan before attending\, visit: http://www.brevardfl.gov/SaveOurLagoon/Home. \nThe event is free and open to the public. Attendees must register. If interested and able\, we ask participants to donate $5 toward our guest speaker series. This educational series is a long-standing and cherished program of the MRC that is supported by volunteers and the community’s charitable giving. All donations are tax-deductible. \nAttendees are encouraged and welcome to bring and enjoy their lunch during the seminar! \nFor more information on the Marine Resources Council\, please visit SaveTheIRl.org.

The garden is modeled after the F.I.T. garden “Ethos” and F.I.T intern Zach Eichholz helped with the design. Eagle Scout Troop 309 helped gather volunteers to help with the build. Big thanks to the Public Works team and everyone who helped make this possible.\nWe hope to see you at the opening!
