
January 1, 2026 – DEP recently announced the award of $25 million for 14 projects that will directly improve water quality in the Indian River Lagoon.
These projects are expected to reduce nutrient pollution by an estimated 214,000 pounds of total nitrogen and 23,000 pounds of total phosphorus each year.
Since 2019, Florida has invested $796 million in 209 projects in the Indian River Lagoon. More than 40 of these projects are already complete and contributing to cleaner water.

Indian River Lagoon Water Quality Improvement Grants
Includes 14 projects across the 5-county area that contains the Lagoon, with 4 in Brevard County:
- Brevard County 100 Quick Connects to Sewer Project $600.000
- Brevard County South Beaches Wastewater Treatment Facility Advanced Treatment Conversion Project $2,000,000
- City of Cocoa Septic-to-Sewer Conversion Project – Areas J and K $5,296,826
- City of Palm Bay Septic-to-Sewer Conversion Project – Zone A $3,721,422
