Please join us at MRC’s Ted Moorhead Lagoon House Tuesday, November 7th, 2017 at 12 pm, for an educational lunchtime seminar about Brevard County’s Save Our Lagoon Project Plan, presented by Terry Casto, a member of the Citizen Oversight Committee. He will be discussing the threats that the Indian River Lagoon faces and how they are being adressed in regards to the Save Our Lagoon Project Plan.
What is the Save Our Lagoon Project Plan?
In order to reduce serious human impacts on the Indian River Lagoon, such as dense algae blooms and massive fish kills, Brevard County Citizens were given the option by the Brevard County Commission to vote on a half-cent sales tax dedicated to restoration of the Indian River Lagoon. Commissioners only agreed to the referendum after seeing the Save Our Indian River Lagoon Plan, which lays out a detailed, prioritized plan to reduce Lagoon impacts to sustainable levels. On November 8, 2016, 193,066 Brevard County voters (62.4%) approved taxing themselves for ten years to fix the Indian River Lagoon.
