2024 Florida Legislative Priorities

4. Ratify FDEP Stormwater Management Rules

The current Stormwater Management rules for the state of Florida are over 20 years old. An adopted recommendation of the Blue Green Algae Task force in 2020 was to update the rules and improve  methods for permitting monitoring of stormwater pollutants.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protect was tasked with this job. The Rules were completed early this year, but not in time for the 2023 legislature to vote on it, so it will be brought before the 2024 Legislative session.

Although it does not address all the issues of concern, it is a huge step in the right direction so we encourage the legislature to approve the current  FDEP Stormwater Management Rules as is, without further modification. These rules have already passed through the scrutiny of the impacted business and utilities as well as the public, so let's get it over the final hurdle.
