City Council Passes Important Ban on Glyphosate-based Herbicides

(CityofCapeCanaveral.org, Feb. 21, 2021)

“At the February 16, 2021 City Council Meeting, Resolution 2021-03 unanimously passed, which henceforth bans all applications of glyphosate-based herbicides in favor of less impactful non-glyphosate alternatives at all City of Cape Canaveral-owned facilities and properties by both Staff and contractors. This amounts to about 50 acres of land area, much of which is adjacent to the sensitive Banana River Lagoon. Glyphosate has been shown to increase the risk algae blooms in the lagoon – resulting in fish kills and other negative impacts – and there is sufficient evidence to show it can be harmful to humans as well. This resolution is a part of the City’s broader efforts to reduce its impacts on the lagoon’s ecosystem and lead by example.” Click here to visit this article and website.
