2024 Florida Legislative Priorities

1. Continue IRL Protection Plan funding at $100M/year.

2023 was a big win for the Indian River Lagoon. In January 2023, the Governor issued Executive Order 23-06 asking the legislature to Establish the Indian River Lagoon Protection Program and secure at least $100M annually for the next 4 years for priority projects to improve water quality in the Indian River Lagoon.

The Legislature then unanimously approved over $100M in funding for IRL Projects and passed HB-1379. The major topics in the bill include wastewater treatment, onsite sewage treatment and disposal systems (OSTDSs), sanitary sewer services, basin management action plans (BMAPs), the wastewater grant program, the IRL Protection Program and the acquisition of state lands.

We are requesting that the 2024 legislature continue with the Governor's request to allocate at least $100M in fiscal year 2024 to support the IRL Protection Program.
