SOIRL Program Wins ECF Highest Award

The East Central Florida Regional Planning Council (ECFRPC) logoApril 2, 2026 – The East Central Florida Regional Planning Council (ECFRPC) recently paid homage to the Save Our Indian River Lagoon program with the presentation of the Brilliance Award, the highest honor of the ECF Diamond Awards.  The Diamond Awards honor exceptional projects that exemplify innovative and noteworthy approaches to addressing regional challenges, helping to create a healthy, sustainable, thriving, and resilient East Central Florida.

 The SOIRL citizen-initiated program was chosen for the Brilliance Award in part for its strong, science-backed results, all presented in easily accessible databases and graphs.

All winning projects are selected through an internal, group-based ranking system across multiple rounds, with applicants judged strictly on their applications.

About the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council
Established in 1962 as an area-wide association of governments, the ECFRPC is represented by 35 Council members and a skilled staff that provides technical assistance to governments and organizations within the East Central Florida region. The ECFRPC covers eight counties in East Central Florida, including Brevard, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Sumter, and Volusia. These eight counties include 78 towns and cities, home to an estimated 4.3 million residents. The ECFRPC provides expertise in regional planning, technical assistance, and coordination services that strengthen communities and support economic vitality.
