On September 8th, there were a series of explosions at the FAR Chemical in Palm Bay, Florida.  Fortunately, no one was injured, but the major highway, US 1 next to the Indian River Lagoon, was shut down due to the massive smoke clouds.  These clouds contained potentially hazardous materials. In addition approximately 400-500 tons of contaminated soil had been excavated. The Department of Environmental Protection is continuing its investigation to determine the impact of this explosion and why it took over 24 hours for FAR Chemical company to report it to the public as required by Florida Statute.  Click here to learn more about the continuing investigation and its potential impact to the surrounding area.
