Planting began of the Gail Meredith Urban Forest at Satellite Beach City Hall

(BIRLC, January 23, 2021)

This Saturday, the planting began of the Gail Meredith Urban Forest at Satellite Beach City Hall. Gail was a Satellite Beach resident who passed away unexpectedly during a hurricane in 2019. She was a longtime board member of the Brevard Indian River Lagoon Coalition, volunteer with Friends of the Archie Carr turtle walks and a passionate advocate for trees and the lagoon.
This forest will showcase Florida native trees t recommended for beachside planting in Brevard County. Twenty volunteers gathered to plant more than 30 trees of 15 different varieties.
Fundraising was initiated by the Brevard Indian River Lagoon Coalition, with additional funding by the Satellite Beach Sustainability Council and a grant from Keep Brevard Beautiful. Signage will be added soon.
Many thanks to all the individuals who contributed to this memorial in honor of Gail’s lifelong commitment to improving her community.
